A Working Holiday in Africa
A lot of students these days will look for a working holiday when they finish college for the summer such as travelling to France and working on farms so that they get paid while they spend the summer in this wonderful country. However, these days many people prefer to go volunteering in Africa or other third world countries so that they can do some good while they are not studying. This is a great thing to do but it is important to realise that this type of volunteering holiday is not going to be free.
If you have decided that you would like to take the chance to spend the summer volunteering in Africa then you are going to have to pay for it just like you would pay for any other type of holiday. The money you pay will go towards the cost of your accommodation and your food while you are there but you will have to pay for your flights as well. This is something that puts a lot of people off but at the end of the day, volunteering in Africa means that you are helping those who are less fortunate than yourself and while you are there you can get to experience another part of the world.
There are many different jobs that you can do in Africa such as helping young children to learn English or helping with medical centres or lion conservations. The people there will be thrilled to have you but you have to realise that you are not going to get paid for the work that you do. There is so little money in these countries that any money they do get has to be put into making shelters or providing food and medicines for the people there. That is the reason why you have to pay to go volunteering in Africa.
If volunteering in Africa is something that you would like to do then you have to consider that it is going to cost you money each month that you are there. However, if you were to take any other type of holiday it would probably cost you the same or maybe a bit more. And there are so many other benefits of working in a place like Africa such as learning so much about the different cultures and the feel good factor of knowing that you are doing something good.
As well as your money paying for your food and accommodation each month, it will also go towards the cost of buying food and medicine for the local people or helping with the infrastructure so you are not only giving up your time, you are also giving money as well. And when you are not working, you can really enjoy this wonderful continent.
